Numismatic Society invites all interested persons to join PCNS,
the first society established to serve coin collectors in the Western
United States.
PCNS was founded by Farran Zerbe, who came to San
Francisco to supervise the U.S. Mint Exhibit at the Pan-Pacific
International Exposition in 1915. PCNS was originally organized
as a meeting ground for San Francisco Bay Area collectors and students,
but was envisioned as a clearinghouse for numismatists throughout
the West. PCNS has continued to serve as a local meeting place for
the more studious numismatists of the San Francisco Bay Area, but
its wider goals are not forgotten.
PCNS issues publications which are provided to
all members as part of the benefits of membership. Awards for numismatic
research are presented. Many of the most illustrious names in numismatics
have been members of the Society. Our library, once housed in The
Old Mint, is housed at the Sutro Library for public research.
The Society welcomes and encourages membership
by numismatists of all interests. Meetings are held in San Francisco
on the fourth Wednesday of each month except June. A monthly bulletin
is mailed to members with full details of each meeting event. Members
and guests are always welcome. Meetings feature a numismatic presentation,
and all members are encouraged to take part in discussion and display
material relating to the meeting topic.
Membership requirements as stated in the PCNS
Constitution: any person of good character who is interested
in the objects and activities of the Society and who agrees to abide
by its rules shall be eligible for membership.
Dues are $20 per calendar
year and must be submitted with your application. Dues include all
annual publications, monthly bulletins as issued, meeting announcements
and other rights of membership.
